The passing of Raymond Duclona

One of the first successes that was documented on this site was that of the initiative to start a Community Professional School in Belekou. The Wozo Ayiti Team has just learned that the leader of this initiative, Raymond Duclona (Tchege), was killed last night in Cite Soleil.  We have taken down his post on the map out of respect, and should the community continue his great effort in his memory, we will put the post back up again.

La Montagne gives latanye seeds to Valere

Valere is a community in Artibonite which has focused on reforestation. There used to be latanye (a resilient grass that is used to make woven mats and horse saddles) in the community, which served both as an element in soil conservation and craftsmanship. However, during a period of deforestation in the 1980s, the community lost its latanye.  One of the other communities in Wozo Ayiti network, La Montagne, had latanye on the side of the mountain - they harvested the seeds and sent them to Valere for them to start a latanye nursery.
