Guacimal, St Raphael

A community which has so successfully  bred local cows with a foreign cow and trained the community on animal husbandry that the community now produces so much excess milk that it gets delivered to local schools for free

St Raphael is a productive agricultural community that lies halfway between Hinche and Cap Haitian, and it is home to one of Haiti's largest public markets. Outside of the main town, St Raphael has many small rural sections, each one of which has a specific agricultural specialty. One of those small rural sections is called Guacimal. 

Many of Guacimal's farmers have been engaged in raising cows for both meat and dairy, but they realized that the cows were not being as productive as they could. After doing research and experimentation, they decided to breed local cows with a foreign cow to create a breed that was adapted to Guacimal's environment but more productive, and they succeeded. They also discovered elephant grass, a type of grass that is exceptionally nutritious for grazers. All of this knowledge they shared with fellow farmers, and now Guacimal is producing so much milk that it delivers milk to local schools for free.
